Emergency Meeting On Korean Crisis To Be Held By UN Security Council

Bill Richardson in Korea for Talks
According to the Russian ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, a meeting is now planned to take place at 11am on Sunday. The meeting comes 24 hours later than was previously agreed upon, with Churkin blaming the US delegation for the date alteration.
“We assume that nothing will happen in the interim that would bring about further aggravation,” said Churkin. A former major diplomat and current governor of New Mexico, Bill Richardson, is at present meeting with high profile officials in Pyongyang in an unofficial stay.
He has praised the recent developments and views them as a way of easing the pressure in the Korean crisis. “It’s a very, very tense situation, a crisis situation. This is when the Security Council can be most effective,” said Mr Richardson.
Issues are going to be addressed before the already volatile situation intensifies, regarding the monitoring of the much disputed areas in the Yellow Sea, which is a major focal point in the dispute between North and South Korea.
