Angela Merkel Visits Troops In Afghanistan Photo|ISAF|NATO

Afghanistan – Just 48 hours after one of the most senior German diplomats publicly revealed the nations aim to reduce the number of troops in Afghanistan after the latest death of one of their soldiers, the German chancellor visited their soldiers in the volatile nation.

Angela Merkel stopped to visit the German troops in the northeastern region of the country, in Kunduz. Violent clashes have greatly intensified over the last 24 hours spread cross the entire country, which has included the death of two coalition soldiers and also two civilians.

The Nato International Security Assistance Force released the details of sporadic outbreaks of fighting. A total of 20 insurgents were reported to have been killed in gun and artillery battles. The ISAF also revealed how four Afghan soldiers died in an incident that was caused by friendly fire.

Angela Merkel had arrived in secrecy due to security reasons and no further details were given about the visit. Currently the German forces in the region totals approximately 5,000 troops. So far, Germany has reported 45 deaths of soldiers as the violence continues to ravage the country

According to a CNN tally, the number of coalition deaths in Afghanistan has now hit 700 this year.
